A child's education may be one of the largest expense parents face. The calculator link below can help you determine how much you'll need to invest to achieve your college savings goal.
Important Information
Investments in Section 529 college investment plans grow free from federal income tax, however, such plans may be subject to state taxes, which are not reflected in these calculations. State taxes and any change in federal taxation may reduce the percentage of need met by your projected contributions and the amount of your projected assets, increasing any projected shortfall, and increasing the total monthly investment needed to meet your goal. These factors should be taken into account when using the calculator.
Tax benefits may be conditioned on meeting certain requirements. Federal tax, a 10% penalty and state tax apply to nonqualified withdrawals of earnings. Generation-skipping tax may apply to substantial transfers to a beneficiary at least two generations below the contributor. See the Investor Handbook for more complete information.
The projected figures in the College Planning Calculator do not represent the future performance of any Franklin Templeton Fund or Section 529 college investment plan. The results of the calculations are estimates based solely on the information you provided and the assumptions of the calculator program. This calculator is for educational purposes only and is not intended to replace investment or legal advice.
Please print this page and retain it with your results from the College Planning Calculator.
